About
Kay Julie Hutchings is an English contemporary artist working across painting and woven paper.Her practice explores reduction, reconstruction, and visual rhythm through simplified forms, repetition, and structure.In her paintings, faces are reduced to their most recognisable elements — profile, line, shape, and colour — creating bold, abstract compositions that balance simplicity with expression.Alongside this, her woven paper works are created from fragments of her paintings that are cut up and reconstructed through slow, mindful processes of weaving and repetition.Across both disciplines, her work investigates how forms can be simplified, disrupted, and rebuilt, allowing unexpected relationships, rhythms, and compositions to emerge.Based in Sweden, Kay's work is held in several private collections around the world, including Sweden, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, USA and Australia.Kay's artwork is available for purchase, commissions, and art licensing and publishing.
